Abstract
An electro-optical display (6, 7, 13) which can be selectively switched in zones between at least two different optical states, is arranged outside the field of vision but its image can be observed through a partially reflective area 11 within the driver’s field of vision. The display element (6) is preferably a liquid crystal display, an electro-chromic display or an electro-luminescent display. Data is displayed using a control pulse generator (21) and decoders (22, 23), to inform the driver of operating parameters without noticeably disturbing his concentration upon what is happening about his vehicle or vessel (Figure 1).
