Abstract

A composition comprising an aqueous solution of a dyestuff bearing at least one phosphorus acid group and a polymeric material, such that the tendency of the composition to deposit solid is reduced compared with a similar aqueous solution without polymeric material and such that the composition may be handled conveniently, e.g. poured easily from containers at ambient temperatures. Typical polymeric materials are those used to thicken textile print pastes though these are used in smaller amount than normally present in print pastes. Preferred materials include polymers bearing carboxylic acid groups and polysaccharides produced by fermentations of carbohydrates, especially Xanthangums. The compositions may additionally contain disperse dyes. The compositions have enhanced stability, i.e. do not deposit solids on storage.
