Abstract
In a camera having a rangefinder (26) an indication is given or shutter actuation is inhibited if the distance of the subject sensed by the rangefinder is too close for correct focus or is too close or too far for proper exposure with flash illumination. As shown, an adjustable focus lens (14) is driven towards a position of correct focus in response to a signal derived from the rangefinder and a signal representing the lens position. Switches (50, 51) operated by the movement of the lens mount initiate the said indication preferably by means of lamps (84A, 88A, Figure 6 not shown), and the inhibition of shutter actuation. Alternatively, the count in a counter receiving a train of pulses from the rangefinder may be used as a direct indication of a subject distance outside an acceptable range. In another form, the rangefinder signal defines a time interval and circuits within the camera define minimum and maximum time intervals within which the rangefinder signal must lie if the subject is at an acceptable distance.
