Abstract

103,952. Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges. Aug. 11, 1916. Addition to 23336/13. Selectors. – Relates to selectors of the kind described in the parent Specification which are controlled by an escapement oscillated by the driving-force of the selector itself, so that to bring the selector to rest, it is only necessary for the test magnet to hold the escapement in a position to which it has been moved mechanically. According to the present invention, means are provided for restoring the driving power expended during a setting movement of the selector to a sufficient extent to provide for the largest setting movement. In the form shown, the wipers 2 of the selector are mounted on a shaft 1 which is rigid with a spring barrel 6 and a toothed wheel 5 co-operating with an escapement S under the control of the test and call relays P, R as described in the parent Specification. The outer end of the driving-spring 9 is secured to the barrel 6, and the inner end to a sleeve 11 rigid with a ratchetwheel 12, which is engaged by a detent 14 and by a spring pawl 13 connected to the core of a selfinterrupting solenoid 26 used for rewinding the spring. Mounted loosely between the barrel 6 and the ratchet-wheel 12 is a disk 15 having a lug 16 adapted to engage a projection 7 on the barrel 6. Also mounted loosely on the sleeve 11 is a coupling-member 18, 19 adapted to be engaged by a pin 17 on the disk 15 and by a pin 32 on the ratchet-wheel 12. A recess 21 in the disk 15 normally receives the end of a spring 22 in such a way that, when the disk rotates, the spring 22 closes a contact 25 in the circuit of the solenoid 26. The operation of the selector is as follows. The setting of the selector under the control of the relays P, R takes place as described in the parent Specification, the barrel 6 and wheel 5 rotating in the direction of the arrow, while the disk 15 and ratchet-wheel 12 remain stationary. After the selector has been used a number of times, the extension 7 on the barrel engages on the other side of the lug 16 on the disk 15 and moves the disk in the direction of the arrow. The spring 22 closes the contact 25 in the circuit of the solenoid 26, which continues to interrupt its own circuit at contact 25, and to step round the ratchet-wheel 12 to rewind the spring. The pin 32 on the ratchet-wheel engages the coupling- member 19 and moves this on to engage the pin 17 on the disk 15. The movement of the ratchetwheel 12 and disk 15 is then continued until the disk reaches its normal position, opening the circuit of the solenoid. The wheel 5 can’rotate more rapidly than the ratchet-wheel 12, and it may, in certain positions, rotate the disk 15 so rapidly that its pin 17 may reach the arm 19 of the coupling-member and actuate it. In these circumstances, premature opening of the contact 25 is prevented by the segmental part 20 on the arm 19, the part 20 serving to keep the contact 25 closed when the recess 21 in the disk 15 would otherwise allow the contact 25 to open.
