Abstract
1,041,206. Capacitors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 11, 1963 [Oct. 3, 1962; Dec. 31, 1962], No. 35860/63. Heading H1M. A structure for use as a computer element consists of a plurality of narrow drive conductors 11 lying on one side of a sheet 10 of insulating material, while on the other side of the material is at least one sense conductor 15, and the structure is characterized in that the narrow drive and sense conductors are widened at some overlying positions 12 so as to form capacitors at these positions. Such an element with one sense conductor capacitively connected with each of three drive conductors may be used as an OR gate for pulse signals on the three drive conductors. The same arrangement may be used as an AND gate for positive pulse signals on two of the drives by applying a negative control pulse on the third drive. Complex gating arrangements may also be developed. A structure according to the invention may be used as an encoder by providing a number of sense conductors and establishing capacitive connection between them and the drive conductors at certain specified positions such that a binary coded output is obtained on the sense lines when a given input drive line is pulsed.
