Abstract

1,044,063. Melting copper. AMERICAN SMELTING & REFINING CO. June 21, 1963 [June 22, 1962], No. 24733/63. Heading F4B. Copper, in the form of electrolytic cathode shapes, is melted in a stream of hot combustion gases produced by burners such that the oxygen content in each stream is substantially evenly distributed. The oxygen supply is less than stoichiometric by a small, limited amount, and the proportion of oxygen consumed before the stream of hot gas enters the furnace is controlled. A suitable furnace and suitable burners are described and claimed in Specifications 1,044,065 and 1,044,064 respectively.
