Abstract

Polymers of vinyl chloride and mixtures thereof containing at least 85% by weight of vinyl chloride units and having a degree of syndiotacticity of 2 or more are stabilized and delustered with the oxide of a metal of Group IIb of the Periodic Table, preferably zinc oxide. The polymer may be in solution, or in the form of shaped articles such as fibres and filaments. The oxide may be dissolved in a solvent for the polymer, and the polymer dissolved in the resulting solution. Alternatively, the oxide may be added to a solution of the polymer. The solutions may be wet- or dry-spun. In examples, polyvinyl chloride is dissolved in cyclohexanone to which zinc oxide had been added.
