Abstract
1,046,104. Combustion chambers. LES APPLICATIONS TECHNIQUES INDUSTRIELLES. May 21, 1963 [May 28, 1962], No. 20197/63. Heading F1B. A combustion chamber 1 is substantially egg-shaped and the transfer channel 22, at least at the portion adjacent the chamber, has a substantially triangular cross section with a curved base 91a, Fig. 9a. The chamber 1 is surrounded by thermal insulating means such as an insulating air gap 19. In Fig. 1 the gap 19 is sealed by sealing rings 17, 18, and the fuel injector 21 is mounted in a water cooling jacket 7 connected through passage 16 to the cylinder head jacket 10. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the combustion chamber 33 is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 34 leaving an air space 35, the exhaust gases flowing through a passage 36a around sleeve 34. The air space 112, Fig. 10 (not shown) around the chamber may be connected to atmosphere through a non-return valve 104, which allows air to escape when the engine is hot but which causes a partial vacuum in the space 112 when the engine is stopped. The combustion chamber may be formed in a piston. The combustion chamber outlet may discharge the gases into a recess 62 Fig. 6 (not shown), in the piston crown which is connected to auxiliary recesses 64.
