Abstract
1,046,408. Electric coils. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 24, 1963 [Nov. 14, 1962], No. 42046/63. Heading H1P. [Also in Division H2] A coil is formed in an electrode of a vacuum switch by means of a plurality of deep transverse slots 50 cut into the electrode from several directions. The magnetic field set up by the flow of current in the helical path so created assists in the extinction of ares between the vacuum switch contacts. Inserts of low conductivity materiel such as stainless steel may be inserted into the slots. The electrodes may be of round or square cross-section.
