Abstract

A method of coating flat, hemispherical or conical surfaces of Fe, Al, Cu, Ti, alloys thereof and phenolic and polyester resins with Fe, Cr, Ni, Al, Pb, Cu, Zr, Mn, W, Mo, C, B, metallic and non metallic oxides, carbides, borides, silicides and and nitrides such as TiC, WC, N6C, TaC, SiC, CrB, MoSi, BN comprises covering the substrate with the coating material and with an explosive layer which is then detonated. Coatings include mixtures of Cr oxide, Ni and anhydrous silicic acid, Al2O3 and Co. The coating may be in powder, granular or flake form or mixed with an adhesive e.g. nitrocellulose dope to form a sheet which may be spaced from or inclined to the substrate. Between the coating and the explosive may be placed a buffering layer such as paper, textiles, or moulded sheets of resin, resin and sawdust, paraffin wax, tar, pitch, or agar-agar gel. The explosive may be plastic comprising PETN, ZnO, paraffin wax, Ester gum and petrolatum grease of NH4NO3 and fuel oil. The explosion may take place in air, vacuum or under water, sand or sawdust.ALSO:Explosive compositions for use in applying coating layers to surfaces of metals and other solid materials (see Division C7) comprise (a) PETN and paraffin wax; (b) ammonium nitrate and fuel oil; (c) PETN, zinc oxide, paraffin wax, ester gum, and petrolatum grease.ALSO:A method of coating flat, hemispherical or conical surfaces of Fe, Al, Cu, Ti, alloys thereof and phenolic and polyester resins with Fe, Cr, Ni, Al, Pb, Cu, Zr, Mn, W, Mo, C, B, metallic and non metallic oxides, carbides, borides, silicides and nitrides comprises covering the substrate with the coating material and with an explosive layer which is then detonated. Between the coating and the explosive may be placed a buffering layer such as paper, textiles, or moulded sheets of resin, resin and sawdust, parafin wax, tar, pitch, or agar-agar gel. The explosive may be plastic comprising PETN, ZnO, paraffin wax, Ester gum and petrolatum grease or NH and NO3 and fuel oil. The explosion may take place in air, vacuum or under water, sand or sawdust.
