Abstract
1,061,072. Motor vehicle kingpins. C. S. WHITE, and B. E. O’CONNOR. April 28, 1964 [June 19, 1963], No. 17524/64. Heading B7H. A kingpin assembly has a body 14 with a truncated spherical end 32 received by a corresponding truncated spherical socket 31 and means for clamping the body and socket together. The kingpin assembly in Fig. 1 has a body 14, with two ends 32 received by corresponding sockets 31, 35, and a clamping bolt 38 passing through aligned apertures in the body 14 and the sockets 31, 35. Low friction P.T.F.E. inserts 34 are bonded to the sockets. One of the sockets 31 is a press fit in an aperture 22 in an axle member 6 and the other, 35, has a shouldered end 37 fitting in aperture 21 of the member 6. In a modification, Fig. 10, the shouldered socket 35 is arranged above socket 31 and the kingpin has separate ends 45, 46 pressed into body portion 75. The body of the kingpin may be integral with or have bolted to it a steering arm (25) and brackets (26) for a brake back-plate (Figs. 3, 4, not shown).
