Abstract
Erosion corrosion of a liquid e.g. water impinging on a metal surface, e.g. of steel, Cu, Al or alloys thereof such as Cu-Ni, admiralty or Al brass, is reduced by adding hydrogen gas to the liquid, e.g. by injecting it through a gas distributing filter, the addition preferably corresponding to a partial pressure of at least 10-6 atmph, to permit the flow velocity of the liquid over the metal surface to be increased. The surface may form part of a heat exhanger cooled by sea water or the cooling surface in an electrical apparatus.
