Abstract

1,065,463. Lasers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 26, 1965 [Aug. 29, 1964], No. 36652/65. Heading H1C. A flame reaction using a mixture of fuel gases containing carbon and hydrogen produces electromagnetic radiation by stimulated emission. A cylindrical reaction chamber provided with two quartz windows arranged at Brewsters’ angle is positioned in an optical resonant cavity. Acetylene and oxygen are fed into the chamber through inlets and with complete combustion thereof radiation is emitted originating from CH-groups and double-bonded carbon atoms. The ignition of the gases may be effected by means of a high frequency discharge in the gas inlet. The reaction gases may be supplied separately or as a mixture and may include gaseous metal compounds from the transition or rare earth metals.
