Abstract

1,070,656. Automatic frequency control systems. SIEMENS A.G. Sept. 30, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 39766/64. Heading H3A. An oscillator O applies its oscillations over a fixed ratio frequency multiplier (not shown) to a phase detector Ph which compares the multiplied frequency with a reference frequency, the output of the phase detector Ph being fed over an LC low pass filter to a locking-in generator circuit F used for frequency sweeping the divider oscillator O until the desired subharmonic of the reference frequency is produced, the LC filter also feeding through an RC filter a frequency stabilizing circuit of the oscillator. The LC filter has a low cut-off frequency to suppress undesired harmonics of the oscillator, and its inductor L is shunted by one or a pair of oppositely poled rectifiers D to short circuit the inductor for high amplitude difference frequencies produced for any sudden change of oscillator frequency, liable to produce false frequency synchronizing. The RC filter resembles the inductive branches of a Wien bridge circuit and compensates phase shift due to the LC filter. The A.F.C. voltage is applied from the RC filter to the junction A of a pair of capacitive diodes D1, D2 connected in the oscillator circuit across a centre-tapped inductor, the diodes reverse bias and the frequency sweep output F being applied to the centre tap B. The frequency multiplier (e.g. by 10) may comprise a push-pull rectifier frequency doubler feeding through a double tuned band pass filter a transistor amplifier with collector circuit tuned to the fifth harmonic.
