Abstract
1,078,673. Axial piston pumps and motors. AMERICAN BRAKE SHOE CO. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 12, 1963], No. 31190/64. Heading F1A. In a revolving cylinder block axial piston pump or motor the operating shaft 27 is loosely splined at 38 to the cylinder block 40 adjacent to housing valve surface 16 and is journalled in the housing 11 by a bearing 28. The cylinder block 40 is journalled in the housing 11 by means of a flange 70 which acts as the inner race of a roller bearing assembly 78. The bearing is disposed symmetrical about a plane perpendicular to the shaft axis and passing through it at the point of intersection of the plane passing through the centres of the piston heads 51 and the shaft axis. The heads 51 are provided with bearing shoes 62 which are held against the surface 64 of the adjustable cam plate 65 by a nutating plate 72. The plate 72 is urged towards the cam plate 65 by a plunger 55 biased by a coil spring 60. Movement of the plunger 55 on the shaft 27 towards the valve surface 16 is limited by a split washer 59, mounted in a groove in the shaft. The extent of the movement of the washer 59 may be adjusted by means of a lock nut 31, which engages the inner race of the bearing 28, adjusting the position of the shaft 27 within the housing 11. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the operating shaft (93) is journalled in a housing (91), remote from the cam plate (65), and the nutating plate biasing plunger is adjustably limited in movement towards the valve surface (16) by means of a T-shaped bar (110). The T-bar (110) is received within a slot in the operating shaft (93) and the shank (114) of the bar receives a nut (115) which abuts a washer (112) engaging the end of the shaft. The head (111) of the T-bar limits the movement of the plunger.
