Abstract
1,078,761. Meat-stuffing machine. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 13, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43235/62. Addition to 909778. Heading A2U. In a stuffing machine for preparing boneless meat masses and charging them into metal cages or cases for after treatment for marketing, comprising a trough or mould and complementary cover plate for imparting to the mass the desired cross-sectional shape, an end closure for the trough and cover plate, a nozzle for substitution for the end closure, and a pressing plate or plunger head within the trough and movable under force at least through the length of the trough and the nozzle to deliver the meat mass into the metal cage or case, the meal cage or case is adapted to be constrained in the operative position in relation to the nozzle by coupling or connecting means provided in part upon the metal case or cage and in part upon the nozzle or on an element associated with the nozzle. Such coupling means are suitably slide ways with engaging projections, or pins or projections with corresponding loops or flaps. Fig. 1 shows a general view of an apparatus according to the invention and Fig. 2 shows a suitable construction of the metal case and nozzle. Thus the mould 4 has cover plate 7, and is shown with metal cage 8, having removable end plate 26, fitted on the nozzle to receive the meat mass. In Fig. 2 a nozzle 33 is fitted on a plate 34, and is provided with slide ways 31 to co-operate with flange 30 on metal case 28. Removable end plate 26 engages flanges 25, and supports the compression assembly 29 within the case. The meat mass is forced into the case by a plunger acting through coupling means 40 on a plate 35, which plate enters the metal case 28 and is locked therein by a spring catch engaging in the slots 42 in the sides 36 of the plate, thereby enabling compression assembly 23 to maintain pressure on the meat mass in the case during after treatment such as cooking or smoking. The metal case or cage may be lined with a flexible fibrous or plastic casing one end of which is retained by the means for coupling the case or cage with the nozzle assembly. The metal case or cage may be provided with a detachable or hinged wall, or may be formed in two substantially similar parts that are hinged or separable and meet upon a diagonal plane.
