Abstract

1,079,026. Pulse modulation circuits, transistor gating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 6, 1964 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 45308/64. Headings H3T and H4L. In a circuit for sampling an input analogue voltage, the input signal is supplied via terminal 11 to the emitter of a transistor 32, which converts the input into an analogue current, the collector circuit being connected via transistors 35, 36 to earth or to a sampling capacitor 13 respectively. The biasing is arranged so that during the intervals between sampling pulses applied at 12 transistor 35 is conducting and transistor 36 non-conducting, and the analogue current from transistor 32 flows via transistor 35 to earth. When a sampling pulse V 12 is applied, transistor 36 becomes conductive to charge capacitor C13 and transistor 35 is cut off. Immediately preceding a sampling pulse a clamping pulse V 14 discharges the capacitor 13 via resistor 23 and transistor 22. The resulting signal samples are supplied via terminal 15 to a utilization circuit such as a pulse coder. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the functions of transistors 35, 36 are interchanged.
