Abstract

1,081,400. Timing devices. MALLORY TIMERS Ltd. July 29, 1966 [Aug. 25, 1965], No.34191/66. Heading G3T. A device for controlling the cycle of operations of a washing machine &c. comprises a disc 12 rotated by a timer 10 and an indexing mechanism in which a given pin, e.g. pin 61 of a series of stop pins can be advanced by a system of hydraulic plunger assemblies 22, 24 so that the stop pin lies in the path of a particular projection 12′ on the disc. The indexing mechanism comprises an array of first plunger assemblies (13-21), 22 linked by hydraulic reservoirs (39-47), Fig. 3 (not shown), 48 to second plunger assemblies (33-25), 24 so that depression of a given knob 52 causes outward movement of one of the stop pins. The depressed knob 52 is held in position by a spring-loaded latch bar 23 which simultaneously releases any previously depressed knobs. A shaft 11 attached to the disc 12 and timer 10 is then axially withdrawn and the disc rotated until one of the projections 12′ abuts the stop pin 61. The shaft and disc are then returned to their initial position so that the stop pin is clear of the projection whereafter the timer proceeds with its timing operation from the selected starting point onwards. Depression of the other first plunger assemblies (13-21) gives different starting points for the timer.
