Abstract

1,085,048. Brake transmission. SVENSKA A.B. BRONSREGULATOR. May 27, 1966, No. 23857/66. Heading F2E. An automatic slack adjuster wherein a housing constituting a lever 1 has a worm 6 meshing with a worm-wheel 2 attached to a brake operating shaft, the worm being rotatable, to adjust the angular position of the wormwheel (and shaft) relatively to the lever, by automatic driving means including a one-way clutch 21 the means having a lost motion connection with a stationary member 24, is characterized by the said means including a spring-loaded slide member 22 and the lost motion connection being provided between the slide member and the stationary member by furnishing a single projection 30 on one member extending into a suitable recess 27-28 in the other. The recess may be on the slide member instead of as shown. When the lever is moved clockwise as seen in Fig. 1 eventual contact between surfaces 26, 28 will raise slide 22 against its spring to rotate gear-wheel 20 by a rack formed on 22. Clutch spring 21 does not transmit motion to the clutch element 15. At a particular application force the worm spindle moves rightwards against spring washers 11 to free the conical faces of clutch member 15 and the worm shaft. On release of the brake the motion of element 15 transmitted by clutch spring 21 as wheel 20 returns is not transmitted to the worm shaft until the application force has decreased sufficiently to allow the worm shaft to move back leftwards, whereafter the worm shaft rotates to adjust the slack. If such decrease in force does not occur until slide member 22 has reached its lower position no adjustment will occur.
