Abstract

1,091,393. Electric selective signalling. A. O. SMITH CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1964, No. 41371/64. Addition to 967,146. Heading G4H. The invention is a modification of that in the parent Specification. A petrol filling station operative, requiring release of a predetermined amount of petrol from a storage tank at the station, obtains a code setting from the suppliers of the petrol and sets it up by pressing three of ten push-buttons 11 and one of two push-buttons 12, 13. Pushing any pushbutton 11 closes contacts 41 momentarily to step an A.C. stepping switch 8. When the operator has set up the desired code setting he presses » go » button 33. If the code setting agrees with hole positions in a card 15, and at least one of the push-buttons 12, 13 has been pushed, and the right number of push-buttons 11 have been pushed (as counted by A.C. stepping switch 8), a circuit is completed through motor solenoid 3, » go » button 33, contacts 25, 26 controlled by push-buttons 12, 13, A.C. stepping switch 8 and a D.C. stepping switch 9, to energize the motor solenoid 3 thereby closing contacts 4 to energize motor 1 to deliver the petrol. The motor 1 drives a cam 6 to keep contacts 4 closed the required length of time and reset the push-buttons 11, 12, 13. Resetting of the push-buttons 12, 13 is accompanied by closure of contacts 47 to reset the stepping switches 8, 9 through coils 39, 46. However, if the code setting on the push-buttons 11, 12 13 does not agree with that on the card 15, a relay 30 is energized on pressing the » go » button 33 to advance D.C. stepping switch 9 thereby breaking the circuit for the motor solenoid 3 and preventing delivery of petrol, locking-up the system. The stepping switches 8, 9 can also be reset by a key lock switch 49, unlocking the system. Manual resetting means 50 are also provided to reset the push-buttons 11, 12, 13, and the stepping switches 8, 9. Delivery of petrol is accompanied by establishment of a new set of card holes in position. Fig. 4 (not shown) shows an alternative embodiment in which on closure of a switch (82) to its lower position, disagreement between a holed card (89) and code switch setting (90) will open relay contacts (85-1) de-energizing a selflatching relay (83) preventing a load (petrol delivery system) being energized on release of the first switch (82) to its upper position. Said relay contacts (85-1) can be closed again by a key lock switch (93). A mechanical switch interlock is provided to ensure that one or more of said code switches (90) are closed at any one time.
