Abstract

1,101,997. Machine tool details; grinding. K. M€GERLE. 22 April, 1965 [25 April, 1964], No. 17035/65. Headings B3B and B3D. [Also in Division E2] A clamping device for clamping the work table or tool carrier of a machine tool comprises a part to be clamped provided on the table or carrier and a clamping part on the frame, one of the parts in the clamping position of the device being moved towards the other part or elastically distorted in a direction towards the other part by a wedge member moved hydraulioally, the part to be clamped having serrations which co-operate with and, when the parts are unclamped move along, a serrated surface of the clamping part. A work-table has guideways which engage two strips on a bed of a grinding machine. Supports 29, 31 with serrated upper surfaces 39, 41 on strips 35, 37 screwed to the machine bed are engaged by the tapered clamping face 65 of piston 63 of a pair of hydraulic clamping cylinders 61 bolted to column 33 on the supports 29, 31. Operating the cylinders lowers serrated surfaces 43, 45 on strips 47, 49 on the column into clamping engagement with the serrated surfaces 39, 41 on the supports. Reversing the direction of oil flow releases the clamps and the work table is traversed hydraulically to a second position where it is automatically clamped. Alternatively an L-shaped member having an elastic limb which contacts the underside of strip 35 is screwed to the column 33 and is clamped to the strip by operating an hydraulic cylinder the piston of which is connected by a lever to an eccentric pin in the wedge member which engages the elastic limb. A grinding wheel head has strips with serrated surfaces which contact serrated surfaces on strips on the column 33. One strip is L-shaped and a tapered wedge member connected to an hydraulic cylinder clamps one limb of the strip and thereby clamps the wheel head to the column. Release of the clamps is effected automatically and the wheel head is automatically lowered or raised by rotating a spindle, the clamps are then operated again.
