1,102,159. Catalytic apparatus. LIBE KOSAN KABUSHIKI KAISHA. 22 July. 1966 [28 July, 1965], No. 33217/66. Headings B1F and B1X. In a catalytic reactor in which in order to control the temperature of the catalyst gas to be reacted is passed through spaces 18 between catalyst beds 17 countercurrently with respect to the flow of reacting gas in the chamber, the unreacted gas having been in heat exchange in exchanger 10 with reacted gas discharged from the catalyst beds, pipes 19 having opening 19a disposed at various heights in spaces 18 are used to admix further unreacted gas with the unreacted gas in the spaces. By adjusting the position of the pipe outlets the desired cooling can be obtained. The reactor chamber and the heat exchanger are disposed in an outer chamber 1, and additional unreacted gas passes from inlet 5 between the inner wall of the outer chamber and the outer wall of the reaction chamber and thence to the heat exchanger where it mixes with the main flow of unreacted gas entering through inlet 6.
