Abstract
1,102,402. Drying grain. H. P. PEDERSEN. 18 Feb., 1965 [18 Feb., 1964], No. 6619/64. Heading F4G. In a silo for drying granular material at rest, the material is recirculated from the base to the top of the silo by an elevator with an outlet 56 and is dried therein by air from a transverse perforated tube 6, the material being delivered in batches, layer by layer, through a bottom closure comprising outlet openings 14 so located as to make delivery of material substantially uniform over the whole of the base of the silo into a rigid hopper, delivery hopper 22 and a lower receiving trench into which the base of the elevator protrudes. The bottom closure comprises a fixed grate formed of transverse ribs leaving apertures 14 therebetween, which apertures are closed by a cooperating reciprocating grate 16 formed from plates 18, having a counterweight 42 and mounted on rollers 46. The hopper 22 is so suspended on a shaft 26 from the free ends of arms 32 by two trapeze-like suspensions 36, rotation of which shaft due to the weight of granular material therein causes movement of the grate 16 to close the slots 14 through a system of linkages.
