Abstract

1,104,415. Valves. AMOT CONTROLS CORPORATION. 18 May, 1965, No. 20961/65. Heading F2V. A multi-way-fluid control valve is made up of a number of metal or plastic sections C with rabbeted end faces housing interchangeable valve seats S or a gasket G, a through-bore 22 for valve members V and a port 24. When the valve is not manually actuated cylinder section C1 may be employed at one or each extremity of the valve sections C, each section C1 housing a piston P of larger diameter than the valve V. The assembly is closed at each end by caps C11 with an axial port 29 for the pilot fluid, the whole being held together by bolts B. The ports may be plugged as required. The valve members V are thin discs preferably spaced from the bore 22 and threaded to the adjacent valve member V, piston P or other actuator by a rod R. The seats S comprise an elastomeric annulus of rectangular cross-section with lips forming the seating surface for the members V; each seat may consist of two elastomeric discs separated by a metal or plastics guide 40 embodying arcuate slots 43 in the inner periphery; the discs and guide may be bonded. The guide may be inserted in a groove in a one-piece elastomeric seat element and the inner face of the guide may incorporate an O-ring to seal with the rod R. The valve may be loaded by a fixed or an adjustable spring and the cylinder section may be provided with a vent. The pilot pressure may act on a diaphragm instead of a piston, and the valve may be of the shuttle type actuated by the upstream and downstream fluid impinging on the valve member V. The valve may be mounted on a manifold containing passages connecting with the valve ports ; a gasket is interposed between the valve and manifold. The valve may be controlled by a pilot valve in the line to one actuating piston only, the other piston being supplied with controlled fluid which is only effective to return the main valve when the pilot path has been vented. Many different types of valves may be built up from the sections, which valves may be of miniature size and employed in logic circuits.
