1,107,444. Dibenz-oxepin and -thiepin derivatives. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 28 April, 1966 [29 April, 1965; 1 Dec., 1965; 11 Feb., 1966], No. 18576/66. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula wherein Q represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, X represents a hydrogen atom, a C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 hydroxyalkyl group, or an alkanoyloxyalkyl group having, in all, at most 8 carbon atoms, each of Y and Z represents a hydrogen, bromine or chlorine atom or a C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy group and n represents 2 or 3, and their acid addition salts, are prepared by reacting, in the presence of a basic condensing agent, a compound of the formula wherein Hal represents a halogen atom, with a compound of the formula if desired treating a compound of the Formula I, in which X is hydrogen, with a C 2-4 alkylene oxide, with a reactive monoester of a C 1-4 alkane diol, with a reactive ester of a C 1-4 alkanol or with a reactive ester of an alkanoyloxyalkanol having, in all, at most 8 carbon atoms, and, if desired, converting a compound of the Formula I into an acid addition salt. Starting materials of Formula II are prepared by halogenating the corresponding compounds unaubstituted in the 11-position. Pharmaceutical compositions having anaesthetic-potentiating, catatonic, sedative, relaxing, anti-convulsive, antihistaminic and musculotropic spasmolytic action, for oral, rectal or parenteral administration, comprise a compound of the invention together with a carrier.
