Abstract
1,114,477. Polycondensation apparatus. VICKERS-ZIMMER PLANUNG UND BAU VON INDUSTRIEANLAGEN A.G. 31 May, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 24146/66. Heading B1X. A polycondensation reactor comprises a horizontally oriented cylindrical activated vessel 1 divided by partitions 5 into a plurality of reaction chambers, apertures in the dividers allowing for through flow of liquid and a rotatable shaft 3 carrying flights 7, 8 agitating the material while it moves from chamber to chamber from inlet 9 to outlet 10, the vapours forming being removed through outlet 11. The dividers 5 consist of baffle plates insulated by plates 5a to reduce heat transfer between chambers, and the jacket is divided into a plurality of sections for temperature control of the individual chambers. The flights may consist of two continuous helices extending through the vessel as shown in Fig. 1 or may consist of circular rings arranged in planes parallel to each other and inclined to the shaft (see Fig. 3 not shown).
