Abstract
1,117,218. Measuring displacements of scales. CARL – ZEISS – STIFTUNG, [trading as CARL ZEISS]. 25 Oct., 1965 [6 Nov., 1964], No. 45042/65. Addition to 1,091,596. Heading G4H. The apparatus of the parent Specification 1,091,596 (Application No. 44101/64) for measuring the displacement of a scale is modified in that as the electron beam scans the screen of the cathode ray tube (Fig. 1, not shown) it impinges on each of the grid elements (1 . . . 10) in turn to give an output on four leads (A, B, C, D) in turn. The signal on each of these leads is passed via an associated flip flop, e.g. F B (Fig. 2) to two AND gates R B , V B one of which is enabled depending on whether the previous signal was received on lead A or lead C. The enabled gate passes a signal to either OR gate R z or OR gate V z to indicate a backward or forward count in an associated counter to indicate not only the amount by which the scale has moved but also the direction in which it is moved.
