Abstract
1,133,076. Adhesively bonded laminates. NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP. 26 April, 1966 [26 April, 1965], No 18319/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Division C3] Materials are laminated using an adhesive composition comprising a mixture of (a) an aqueous emulsion of a vinyl acetate polymer or copolymer, (b) 2-12%, by weight of the vinyl acetate polymer solids, of polyvinyl alcohol; and (c) an acidic metal salt curing agent selected from chromic nitrate, chromic perchlorate, aluminium nitrate and aluminium chloride. The vinyl acetate may be copolymerized with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or ester or amide thereof, or a vinyl or vinylidene halide. Materials which may be bonded or laminated include wood, hardboard, textiles, leather, paper, cement asbestos board, metals, cardboard, glass or plastic. The materials, coated with the adhesive composition, can be adhered at room temperature and pressures of 30-300 p.s.i. for periods of ¢-3 hours; the pressure or period can be reduced by increasing the temperature. Example II illustrates the preparation of a 3-ply veneer panel.
