Abstract
1,135,716. Fault locating in transmission system. SIEMENS A.G. 3 March, 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 10116/67. Heading H4R. In a fault-location system for locating channel interruptions in carrier-frequency telecommunications transmission systems, having remote-fed intermediate amplifiers V1, V2, Fig. 2, at zones arranged along the transmission section and monitoring relays R1, R2, in the remote-feed circuit, adapted, when energized, to open by contacts r1, r2, a shunt arm connected across the go and return lines of the remote-feed circuit and comprising a resistor W1, W2 and a diode D3, D4, which is normally non-conductive, each monitoring relay is connected in series with a measurement resistor Rm1, Rm2, this series arrangement being bridged by a diode D1, D2, which is normally conductive, and in the event of a channel interruption a predetermined direct measuring current, the direction of which is opposite to that of the normal feed current, is used to determine the loop resistance of the remote-feed circuit associated with the remaining transmission section and thus the location of the fault. Resistors Rm1, Rm2, may follow the relay and the number of effective turns on the relay may be reduced by its actuation to that necessary for holding. A voltmeter responsive to loop resistance is directly calibrated to indicate the number of amplifiers before the fault, the amplifier resistances being eliminated by forward biased zener diodes across them.
