Abstract

1,137,792. Covers for resisting fluid pressure. HERMANN RAPPOLD & CO. G.m.b.H. 16 June, 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 27928/67. Heading F2P. A slide valve of the damper type, for controlling a large diameter air, or other gas, blast furnace duct wherein the pressure is high, e.g. up to 4 atmospheres, comprises a dished member 5 which has a sealing face 2 for co-operation with a main valve seating, not shown, and stiffening webs 8, 9 which are bridged by a bulkhead 3 which is sealed, at its periphery, to the dished member 5 and in which an unloading valve port 4 is formed, and an unloading valve slide 25 which is removably mounted in a slideway between the dished member 5 and the bulkhead 3 and co-operates with an auxiliary sealing surface 12 formed on a removable insert 10, 11 in the unloading port 4, the valve slide 25 being connected to an operating linkage 30 for actuating the main slide valve by a member 28 which extends through an opening 7 in the dished member. The valve slide 25 is guided for vertical movement by rails 21, (22) ramps (23, 24), Fig. 4, not shown, engaging beneath rollers (19, 20), Fig. 3, not shown, to press the valve 25 into sealing contact with the surface 12 during its final downward closing movement. The rollers (19, 20) are carried by brackets (15, 16) which are attached to a flange 10 of the removable insert 10, 11 and which extend through diametrically opposed slots 13, 14 in the bulkhead 3. The reinforcements 8, 9 comprise a horse shoe web 8 and radial webs 9. Before the main slide of the damper is opened the unloading valve 25 is first withdrawn from its closed position by means of the rod 30 until a screw socket 31, which joins the rod 30 and the member 28, strikes a bearing 29 for the rod 30. The dished member 5 has openings 6. The main slide is guided by elements 32-35 and a stop 36 locates its closed position.
