Abstract

1,137,807. Independent rear suspensions. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 15 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 12203/67. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle rear suspension including a wheel carrier 12 connected to the vehicle superstructure 10 by oppositely extending links 13, 14, one link 13 is connected to the carrier 12 by a pivot 16 having a transverse axis and to the superstructure 10 by spaced pivots 15, and the other link 14 connects the carrier 12 to the superstructure 10 with resilience or pivotability in all directions and is constructed or mounted to yield principally in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. As shown, the link 14 is formed in two sections 20, 21 telescopically connected by a piston 22 slidable in a cylinder 23 and maintained in mid-position by springs 24, 25 or rubber buffers. Universal pivots 17, 18 connect the link 14 to the carrier 12 and superstructure 10. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the link is formed by an arm of a transverse stabilizer bar mounted at each end in a bearing member centred by springs in a longitudinallyextending guideway. In Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the stabilizer bar is mounted at each end in a rubber bush carried by a bearing member connected to the superstructure through rubber buffers having a high capacity for yieldng longitudinally of the vehicle.
