Abstract

1,149,850. Mixing apparatus; comminuting apparatus. DRAISWERKE G.m.b.H. 15 Dec., 1966 [17 Dec., 1965; 3 Nov., 1966], No. 56252/66. Headings B1C and B2A. Apparatus especially for mixing wood chips and glue comprises a container (as shown a trough 1 with cover 2), spray nozzles 3, transverse dividing screens 10, 17, mixing arms 7 on a rotatable shaft 6 and separately rotatable cutters 11 upstream of the screens; the cutters 11 may coact with fixed counter-cutters 12 and their hubs 13 may carry additional cutters 16. The mixing arms. 7 may be arranged to urge the material towards the screens and they may be modified to produce appropriate action on the mix according to its condition in each compartment. The cutters are rotated at a greater speed than the mixing arms and their clearance may be adjusted by axial adjustment of the hubs 13. In another embodiment, see Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the container is a vertical cylinder (20) with coaxial mixing shafts (22) and the screens (21) are preferably conical, but may be flat; the rotating cutters (23) may be arranged to have a slicing action, the screens may be axially adjustable, and there may be fixed counter-cutters (26). The cutters are rotated at 600 r.p.m. for a container of 700 m.m. diameter. In a third embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the rotatable cutting devices (41, 41a, 41b) are not carried on the mixer shaft but are arranged transversely thereto to coast with transverse semi-cylindrical screens (40, 40a, 40b), there being additional mixing devices (42, 42a) on transverse shafts below the screens. The length of the semi cylindrical screens may ‘be twice the width of the container and they may be slidable so that half is always outside the container for cleaning or exchange.
