Abstract

1,149,967. Fused electrolyte cells. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. May 24, 1966 [May 26, 1965], No.23055/66. Heading C7B. A lifting beam 100, for electrolysis cells e.g. fused electrolyte cells for manufacturing aluminium using self-baking Soederberg or pre-baked anodes, has a super-structure comprising a fixed base e.g. two I-section girders 20 and at least one movable conducting bar for supporting an anode assembly by its rods, and comprises a support frame 110 capable of resting on the fixed part of a cell, rod-clamping cover mechanism 130, preferably each insulated from the support frame by insulating assembly 120, each cover 140 being pivoted on to a shaft 132 fast with the support frame e.g. cover support 131 and carrying a clamp for a rod 30 with a fixed member 151 fast with the cover and a movable member 152 e.g. on a support 153 pivoted about a shaft 154 fast with the cover and connected e.g. by member 155 pivoted at 156 to the end of a spring 158 the other end of which is pivoted at 159 with the support frame e. g. by a rod 160 with cover support 131, and a jack 157 acting in the opposite direction to the spring. The beam may comprise as many covers 140 as the anode system has rods or the same cover may hold more than one rod, a single clamp for all the rods or as many clamps as rods for it to hold.
