Abstract
1,152,595. Dyeing process. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 15 Sept., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965; 6 Jan., 1966; 12 Jan., 1966], No. 41294/66. Heading D1B. Synthetic or semi-synthetic fibres are paddyed or printed by treating the fabric with a padding bath or printing paste containing at least one compound of the formula wherein X is halogen and nucleus A may bear one or more halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy groups, and one or more inorganic alkaline substances, the pH of the bath being kept at 8 or above. Specified substrates are polyolefins e.g. polypropylene, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, p.v.c. and acetate fibres. Preferred diimines are 1,4 – quinone dichlorinine and the 2 – halo-, 2 – alkyl or 2 – alkoxy, or 2,5 – dichloro, dialkyl or dialkoxy derivatives. Inorganic alkaline compounds preferably used are sodium and potassium hydroxides or carbonates, sodium bicarbonate, silicate for tertiary phosphate and quicklime. The bath or paste may also contain at least one compound of the benzene or naphthalene series which contains at least one nuclear amino and/or hydroxyl group, a quinoline compound having at least one hydroxy group, or their salts, ethers or phenolates. The compounds may be further substituted other than by sulphonic acid groups. Many examples are given including anilines, toluidines, xylidines, amino-phenols, aminodiphenylamines, phenols, naphthols and hydroxy quinolines, and the weight ratio of these compounds to the quinone diimine is preferably 1:1. The usual adjuvants e.g. carriers, swelling agents, dispersing agents and viscosity promoters may be present in the pad-bath or paste. The substrate may be pretreated with an organic or inorganic acid and when dyed given a reduction clearing treatment.
