Abstract

1,155,092. Photographic flash socket. EASTMAN KODAK CO. July 13, 1966 [July 14, 1965], No.31469/66. Heading G2A. A photographic flash device comprises a rotatable socket for a photo-flash package containing a plurality of photo-flash lamps (e.g. a flash-cube), and has means for automatically ejecting the package when all the lamps have been used. As shown, the base of the package 16 is provided with an annular contact ring 18 bearing four pairs of contacts which sequentially engage a pair of socket contacts in an annular recess 12, and a depending post 17 having retaining lugs 19 which are engaged by an annular spring 15 in the socket, the post 17 fitting over a socket stabilizing stud 13; as the package is inserted the lugs 19 depress an ejector ring 21, rotatably supported on the stud 13, against the action of a spring 30, and a key portion 22 on ring 21 passes through a cooperating notch 23 in a fixed plate 24 until flat surfaces 24 of the ring 21 engage and are rotated by the legs 28 of a scissors-type spring so that the key 22 is no longer aligned with the notch 23 and the lower edge of spring 28 engages a surface 27 of the ring 21 thus holding the package in the socket. In use the socket and package are rotated stepwise after each lamp is fired by means of a rotatable driving member 25 as described in Specification 1,154,171. During this rotation the key 23 engages and depresses a spring-biased plunger 31 which, in turn engages and further separates the legs 28 of the spring, thus releasing the surface 27 of ring 21 from the legs so that the package is then held in the socket by the key 22 engaging the lower surface of plate 14. The stepwise rotation is continued until, after each lamp has been fired, the key 22 is aligned with the notch 23 in plate 14 so that the package is ejected by the ejector ring 21 under the force of spring 30.
