Abstract
1,173,007. Burner control. HONEYWELL Inc. 30 Nov., 1966 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 53672/66. Heading F4T. [Also in Divisions G1 and H3] In a burner control circuit there is a silicon controlled rectifier 40 which during a trial period for the establishment of a flame is biased to conduct current from an A.C. source 10 in the absence of said flame, and to block the current when the flame is established, wherein bias for the gate of the S.C.R. is derived from the interaction of a voltage drop across the heater 44 of the thermal safety cut-out 22 and a voltage applied to the gate electrode thereof derived from a potential divider circuit 30-33 across the source, the said heater isolating the control circuit at the end of a trial period in the event that the flame is not established. In use, on a call for heat thermostat 20 will close and a voltage be applied across the divider circuit which includes a cadmium cell 33. With the cell not illuminated, since the flame has not been established, the S.C.R. fires energizing relay coil 24 to close burner igniter contact 26 and holding circuit contact 25. Establishment of the flame will illuminate cell 33, lowering its resistance, so that the voltage across resistor 32 drops sufficiently to turn off the S.C.R.
