Abstract
1,175,026. Electronic musical instruments. D. J. LESLIE. 19 July, 1968 [28 July, 1967], No. 34566/68. Heading G5J. [Also in Division H4] In a loudspeaker system for an electronic organ, two of the loudspeakers 48 and 82 are caused to rotate to produce pulsator or celeste effects by means of a two-way ganged switch S 1 to S 4 which alters the speed of rotation of the loudspeaker 48 and simultaneously causes a filter to be switched in and out of circuit. The speakers are enclosed in a rectangular cabinet 10, the medium and high range elliptical loudspeakers 36, 38 and the bass loudspeaker 12 all being enclosed in separate compartments 30, 32 and 14 respectively to reduce intermodulation. Louvred openings 46 provide for the outward passage of air from speakers 36, 38. Loudspeakers 48 and 82 are enclosed in a lower compartment 28 of cabinet 10. Loudspeaker 48 comprises a twin horn which is rotated by means of a two-speed motor 60 through pulleys 58 and 62 and belt 64. Loudspeaker 82 is an elliptical type mounted in a cylindrical drum 72 equipped with a slot 80 for the outward passage of air from the loudspeaker. The drum is similarly rotated by a single speed motor 86, connections to the loudspeaker passing through slip rings 83. Louvred opening (26) in the wall of compartment 28 provides for the outward passage of air from loudspeakers 12, 48 and 82. Fig. 4 (not shown) shows the wiring diagram of the loudspeakers in which three input channels, non-tremolo, tremolo and pedal are provided. A random phase shifter is provided in the lead to loudspeaker 36 to introduce a randomly varying frequency shift of the order of one or two cycles per second.
