Abstract
1,175,323. Ships carrying gas tanks. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 26 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 19978/68. Heading B7A. [Also in Division F4] A plurality of elongated high pressure gas, e.g., natural gas storage cylinders 1, Fig. 2, carried in the hold of a ship are fixedly secured together by rings 5 welded at 6 Fig. 3, to cylinder end caps 3 and also welded at 8 to plates 7 which are in turn welded at 10 to steel beams 9 whereby in the event of complete rupture of a cylinder wall the parts are prevented from flying apart. In a modification opposite end portions of each cylinder 20, Fig. 6, are surrounded by an adhesively secured metal ring 21 which is welded at 28 to the ring of an adjacent cylinder. The ring may comprise a pair of conical split rings 22, 23. In a modification opposite ends of the cylinders are embedded in a phenol resin. –
