Abstract
1,175,428. Junction pieces ; valves. H. LUHLEICH. 30 March, 1967, No. 14429/67. Headings F2G and F2V. [Also in Division B8] A diaphragm of rubber &c. has a biconvex shape which can be pierced by an hypodermic &c. needle, withdrawal of the needle allowing the pierced hole to seal. Junction pieces.-An elbow-shaped junction piece connecting two tubes 5, Fig. 12, has a biconvex shaped diaphragm 1 which may be pierced by a needle. In a modification, a straight junction piece, Fig. 13 (not shown), connecting in-line tubes (5), has across its centre a biconvex diaphragm (1) which can be pierced by a needle introduced down one of the tubes. In another form, a straight junction piece, Figs. 16, 17 (not shown), has four biconvex diaphragms ( 1 ) disposed equiangular around its wall. In yet another modification, two hollow needles are put in communication by inserting them through biconvex diaphragms (1), Figs. 18-20 (not shown), on opposite sides of an entirely enclosed hollow rubber connector. Valves.-A valve connecting pipes 5b, 5c has a body 13, Fig. 24, of rubber &c. with a biconvex diaphragm 1c which can be pierced by a hollow needle 17 having side ports 18a, 18b. The needle 17 is lowered through a guide 16 to shut the valve. Index marks 19a, 19b are aligned with the top of the guide 16 and show when the valve is closed and opened, respectively. In a modification, a hollow needle (17a), Fig. 25 (not shown), is used to pierce two biconvex diaphragms (1c 1d) in a rubber &c. valve body interconnecting three pipes (5b &c.) and movable to various positions connecting the pipes in pairs &c. In another modification, a hollow needle (13), Fig. 23 (not shown), is used as a valve, being inserted through a diaphragm (1b) in an elbow-shaped junction piece, and raised and lowered to pierce &c. adiaphragm (1c) across the centre of a straight-through junction piece to which it is connected through a short pipe (5a). The diaphragms may be coated or laminated. Biconvex diaphragms in rubber &c. caps for bottles and in stoppers (see Division B8) are also described.
