Abstract

1,175,644. Decarburizing spheroidal graphite cast iron. W. BUSCH AND H. FRIEDERICHS [Trading as BERGISCHE STAHL INDUSTRIE]. March 1, 1968 [March 3, 1967], No.10202/68. Headings C7A and C7D. Spheroidal graphite cast iron is rendered weldable by decarburizing annealing at 900 to 1200‹C., at least in the zones to be welded, to reduce the carbon content to not more than 0À3%. For example a spheroidal graphite cast iron workpiece containing 3À39%C, 2À52%Si, 0À17%Mn, 0À05%Mg, the rest being Fe with usual additions and impurities, is heated at 1070‹C. for 48 hours to reduce the carbon content in the weld or edge zones to 0À2%C, prior to tempering at 740‹C.
