Abstract
1,176,716. Disc brakes. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 27 April, 1967, No. 19352/67. Heading F2E. In a disc brake of the kind comprising a housing 1 containing a pair of pads 13 which are applied to a disc 15 by pistons 9 in cylinders 7 formed in respective halves 3, 5 of the housing, an opening 17, formed in the housing to permit withdrawal of the pads radially for inspection and replacement, is protected by a detachable imperforate shield 28 of spring steel which clips either on the housing or, as shown, over removable pins 19 which are threaded through apertures in the pad backing plates 11 and in the housing to retain the pads, the shield having arms 25 provided with recesses 27 adapted to engage the projecting ends of the pins 19 or similar abutments on the housing. The pins 19 are prevented from axial movement by split pins 21.
