Abstract
1,177,230. Vehicle headlamps. PROJECTEURS CIBIE. 18 April, 1967 [6 June, 1966], No. 17747/67. Heading F4R. A headlamp comprises a reflector 1 having a wide front aperture and a narrow rear aperture, a lens 2 hermetically sealed to the front aperture, a bulb 5 non-hermetically mounted in the rear aperture, and a cover 7 for the rear aperture, the cover being hermetically sealed to the reflector and being formed in two separable but hermetically connected parts 7a, 7b. The lamp when manufactured is completely sealed and contains an inert gas atmosphere, but on failure of the bulb 5 the two parts of the cover are separated and the bulb is replaced so that the lamp can be operated as a non-sealed unit. The parts 7a, 7b are connected by a metal strip 11 having a tab 11a adapted to be engaged by a suitable key by means of which the strip can be removed and the cover opened. Alternatively the parts may be screwed together. The cap 5b of the bulb may project through the rear part 7b of the cover in which case a seal 9b is provided.
