Abstract
1,182,691. Energy absorbing devices. CONRAD ZSCHOKKE A.G. 5 May, 1967 [13 May, 1966], No. 21073/67. Heading F2E [Also in Division E1] A shock-absorbing assembly comprises a fixed tubular member 1, a movable ram member 2 telescopically engaged with the member 1 and carrying a section 4 of a traffic guide rail, one of the members carrying a perforated disc 7 of relatively hard material and the other carrying a tapered rod 6 of relatively soft material having its smaller end engaging the perforation in the disc, whereby when a shock is received by the guide rail section the tapering rod is forced through the perforation of the disc and the input energy is absorbed. The rod 6 is of aluminium and the disc of steel, the latter being secured to the member 1 by a lock ring 9. A second lock ring 10 secures the rod from withdrawal from the disc 7.
