1,183,367. Determining dimensions. D. CHARPILLOZ. April 24, 1967 [April 26, 1966], No. 18674/67. Heading G1M. A device for gauging workpieces 15 comprises feelers, 3, 4, 6, 7, which successively engage the workpiece at predetermined points 1 to 14 upon moving the workpiece through a channel 16 in the device having a cross-section similar to that of the workpiece 15, the feelers being operatively connected to a measuring instrument. The workpiece 15 illustrated is a barrel arbor of a watch. Pairs of feelers are mounted in bores in a body 17 of the device one of each pair on opposite sides of the channel 16, and the end-faces of the feelers exactly match the shape of the channel 16 except for a small portion 27, 29, &c., of each end-face. Parts 23 of movable blocks 22 are maintained by springs 26 in engagement with heads 21 on the outer ends of the feelers. As the workpiece 15 is moved past each pair of feelers it engages projecting portions 27, 29, &c., and moves the blocks 22 outwardly by amounts which are measured by electronic or other instruments, and from which amounts the various dimensions of the workpiece can be obtained. The dimensions indicated by the arrows 9 to 14 are determined using a second body 31 secured to the body 17 and having a channel 16′ aligned with the channel and in which feelers are positioned to move perpendicular to the direction of movement of the feelers in the body 17. The movements of the feelers in the body 31 are transmitted to movable blocks 33 and measured by further instruments. The bodies 17, 31 may have replaceable cores so that workpieces of different profiles may be measured.
