Abstract

1,197,379. Transformers. E. SCHEUBECK. 9 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967, No. 42810/68. Heading H1T. An on-load tap changer comprises two parallel circuits each individually capable of connecting the load-line or neutral points «A» to tap connections 1-8 through tap selector contacts 14, 15 which contact the same tapping connections 1-8 in succession. The first circuit consists of a vacuum switch 11, and the second consists of two parallel paths, one having a main switch 12 and the other having an auxiliary swith 13 and a resistance R in series. Normally, the vacuum switch 11 and the main switch 12 are both closed, with the switch 13 open. When a change of tap position is initiated, switch 12 opens diverting the entire current to the vacuum switch 11 soon after which the contact arm 15 moves over to the desired new tapping position when switch 13 closes causing an inter tap circulating current to flow. This is followed by switch 11 opening and 12 closing in sequence. Contact arm 14 now moves over to the new position to coincide with arm 15, when switch 13 opens. This is followed by switch 11 closing to establish the initial condition when the total load current is shared by switches. 11 and 12.
