An alkaline earth magnesium silicate (ortho- or pyro-silicate phase) phosphor (xAO.yMgO. zSiO 2 ), is activated by divalent Eu and divalent Mn. The atomic ratio of the alkaline earth Ba, Ca or Sr to Mg may be between 3: 1 and 1: 2, atom ratio of A+Mg to Si between 4: 2 and 3: 2, and the atom fraction of Eu and Mn is 0À0004 to 0À4 and 0À0004 to 0À5, respectively.
