Abstract
1,199,819. Thermally insulated vessels. J. E. F. MOREAU and P. R. PEIRET. 23 Oct., 1968 [23 Oct., 1967], No. 50286/68. Heading F4U. A double-walled vessel made of a frangible material, e.g. glass or a ceramic, has a protective insulating coating entirely covering its inner and outer walls. As shown, a Dewar flask 10 is embedded within expanded synthetic plastics material 13 which is confined between outer and inner walls 16, 15. Walls 15 and 16 may be made from polycarbonate and polyethylene respectively, and material 13 has a polyurethane base. The vessel is made by placing the reactive constituents of the expanded material in the flask 10, surrounding the flask with walls 15, 16 while the reaction proceeds, allowing the reacting mixture to overflow the Dewar flask to fill the space between flask 10 and wall 16, inverting the vessel so that expanded material issues from an aperture in the base of wall 16, removing excess material when the reaction is complete, and covering the aperture with a plate 18. The excess material may flow into a mould for forming the stopper of the vessel.
