Abstract
1,213,984. Inertia reels. KANGOL MAGNET Ltd. 13 March, 1968 [21 March, 1967; 8 Sept., 1967], Nos. 13291/67 and 41209/67. Heading A3V. [Also in Division F2] An inertia reel device 10 includes a reel 25 on which is mounted a ratchet wheel 45 rotatable therewith, a pendulum 50 mounted so that it can pivot through a limited angle in all directions about a pivot point, an operating member 52 secured to the pendulum having a top surface arranged to engage with a bottom surface of a thrust transmission member 57 which is mounted for movement, when the device is mounted for use, in a vertical direction, the top surface of the operating member and the bottom surface of the thrust transmission member are so shaped that angular displacement of the pendulum from the vertical causes upward movement of the thrust transmission member which causes a pawl 41 to engage the ratchet wheel 45. The operating member is preferably a hemisphere mounted on the stem 51 of the pendulum having a plane top surface normal to the stem. The pawl and ratchet teeth are so shaped that when they are engaged and torque applied in a direction to inhibit rotation by means of the pawl the pawl is retained in engagement until the torque is removed. The pawl is normally spring biased 60 out of engagement with the ratchet. In a further embodiment the pendulum and thrust transmission member sub-assembly is mounted such that the casing may be non-vertical but the pendulum remains so.
