Abstract
1,220,637. Differential amplifier and pulse detector. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 1 Oct., 1968 [11 Oct., 1967], No. 46421/68. Heading H3T. Two transistors 21, 23 of a differential amplifier receive differential signals at 17, 19 and each has a resistance divider 45, 47 and 49, 51 connected to its collector; and a difference detector 15 has its two inputs connected to different points 53, 59 in the respective dividers. A pulse (A, Fig. 2, not shown) from a core store is applied to input terminal 19 and an equal and opposite pulse to terminal 17, so that the normally balanced conduction in transistors 21, 23 is decreased and increased respectively. Consequently the collector potentials, which were equal, move oppositely, and at a stage where the collector 53 potential (c) becomes positive with respect to the intermediate point 59 potential (B), a normally conducting transistor 69 and a normally non-conducting transistor 71 in the detector 15 change states to give an output current at 75. The threshold before this output current appears in response to an input pulse at 17, 19 is adjusted by varying the potential divider ratio. A second identical detector 13 has its two inputs oppositely connected to corresponding points 55, 57 in the dividers, and responds to an input signal at 17, 19 of opposite polarity.
