Abstract

1,222,082. 082. Gas turbine type hot gas generator. C.A.V. Ltd. April 10, 1968 [April 27, 1967; June 27, 1967; Sept.22, 1967; Jan.19, 1968], Nos. 19438/67, 29595/67, 43233/67 and 2993/68. Heading F1G. The invention relates to a hot gas generator which comprises first and second compressors, combustion equipment and a turbine which drives the two compressors, there being an air/fuel burner in the combustion equipment, the first compressor supplying combustion air to the burner and the second compressor supplying dilution air to the combustion equipment, there being further means for supplying fuel to the air flowing to the burner, the exhaust gases from the turbine passing to an ejector which draws in atmospheric air thus providing a large volume of relatively cool hot gas. The hot gas generator shown in Fig.1 comprises a first radial flow compressor rotor 16 and a second radial flow compressor rotor 17, the two rotors being mounted at one end of a shaft 11, an inward radial flow turbine rotor 12 being mounted at the other end of the shaft. The air outlet 20 of the first compressor 16 is connected by duct 31 to an air/fuel burner 29 mounted at the upstream end of flame tube 28 of combustion equipment 24, the air outlet of the second compressor 17 being connected by a duct to the combustion equipment, the dilution air delivered by the compressor 17 passing into the flame tube 28 through openings 30 so as to reduce the temperature of the combustion gases. The resulting combustion gases discharge through inlet 14 to drive the turbine rotor 12, the gases finally discharging through outlet 15 to the ejector 40 thus drawing in atmospheric air. The hot gas mixture passes to a point of use such as for drying out new buildings, drying crops, or for drying particulate material such as foundry sand. A carburetter 33, Fig.2 (not shown), is disposed upstream of the inlet 22 of the first compressor 16; alternatively it may be disposed downstream of the outlet 20. An igniter device 32 is disposed adjacent the burner 29.
